Plan a Romantic Summer Getaway in Rome

Many lovers see Italy as an idyllic getaway, excellent for helping their association blossom. With a romantic atmosphere, phenomenal food and great wine to enjoy by candlelight, all while being serenaded by road musicians, there’s no surmise not to fall in love with Italy – or to share the experience with your loved one.

However, with so many phenomenal cities and towns to pick from in Italy, it can be hard to conclude on a romantic getaway destination. So why not go with one of the most classic choices, and voyage to Rome with your partner this summer? Rome has so much to offer in terms of romantic sights and activities, you and your loved one are sure to come away with an experience to remember.

Festival

Any romantic getaway in Rome should begin with a leisurely wander through the city, visiting some of the most beautiful sights. Among the most romantic are the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Via Sacra, the Borghese Gardens and Piazza Navona – along with countless others. You also won’t want to miss out on an evening wander along the Tiber River – other of Rome’s most quintessential romantic activities.

Of course, there are also discrete celebrated viewpoints over the city, excellent for lovers to experience together. Two of the most favorite views of Rome are from Gianicolo hill – overlooking Trastevere, the Pantheon and the monument to Vittorio Emanuele in Piazza Venezia – as well as from the Pincio at the edge of the Borghese Gardens, where you’ll get a great view of the Vatican. Less known – but offering remarkable views just the same – is the orange grove at Parco Savello on the Aventine Hill.

Once you and your partner have experienced some of the most beautiful sights and views in Rome, it’s time to plan some romantic activities. Why not join a wine-tasting tour, or maybe take a cooking class together? Italy’s wine is truly one of the most romantic aspects of the country, so studying more about it as a couple is a great activity for your romantic getaway. Similarly, you can learn how to make some of those appetizing Italian dishes you’ve tried on your getaway by participating in a cooking class!

Of course, there are many other romantic activities for you and your loved one to experience while in Rome. The Estate Romana Festival, for instance – on from late June through early September – offers discrete musical and cultural events such as jazz, classical music, film and theatre – production it an ideal couple’s activity. The White Night (Notte Bianca) festival, on the other hand – on in early to mid September – hosts discrete events such as music, dance, and theatre performances, while shops, museums and restaurants stay open late – a excellent setting for a romantic summer getaway!

Thankfully – particularly for those living in Europe – all of these attractions are only a few hours away. Rome flights are served by the city’s two main airports, Ciampino and Fiumicino, production holidays in Rome truly accessible for anything seeing to exploring the Eternal City.

Director: Anton Corbijn

Cast: Samantha Morton, Sam Riley, Alexandra Maria Lara, Toby Kebbell, Joe Anderson.

Festival

Runtime: 121mins

Days away from embarking on a long dreamed about tour of the United States, Ian Curtis, the enigmatic lead singer of the band Joy Division, hanged himself on May 23, 1980 from a rope in the kitchen of his apartment. His suicide not only ended his promising young life but also the dreams of a generation. Twenty seven years after his death, he is still remembered.

Control, the winner of the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival is based on the 1996 autobiography “Touching From a Distance” by Ian’s widow Deborah Curtis, the film follows Curtis’ life from his youthful years to his tragic death at age twenty three.

Ian Curtis (Sam Riley) worked in an employment transfer until the sun went down and he made his dreams of sci-fi and beat poet imagery come alive on stage. Curtis got married young, to a local girl Debbie (Samantha Morton) but fell in love with Annik (Alexandra Maria Lara), an enchanting woman from Belgium. His life was being torn in the middle of these two beauties that inspired his most famous song, and combined with epilepsy and continuing stage fright that contributed to his suicide. Before he became epileptic himself, he witnessed a job-seeker he was interviewing, suddenly having a major seizure. It’s shown mostly from his point-of-view. It’s an important event to comprise – he wrote ‘She’s Lost Control’ about it – although misunderstanding about epilepsy is so uncut that it’s feasible to expect some of the audience to go home reasoning he ‘caught’ it.

Sam Riley is surprisingly good at conveying Curtis’ slow descent into hopelessness. Riley’s performance is restrained, he never goes over the top, not even towards the end. His Portrayal of Ian Curtis, as an uninteresting man whose professional, personal and romantic problems tore him apart from within was done in a way that we might wonder where has this actor been all this while.

The cinematography is glorious in its stark, high contrast, black and white, the performance scenes feel realistic and genuine, and the director gets some fine performances from every cast member. Not only a biography that seems to truly capture the branch at hand, but also a superb film to stand alongside any genre out there.

Best Jazz Albums of All Time – My Top 10 List

1) Kind of Blue -Miles Davis

Yes this is probably the whole one selling jazz album of all time. Some say it Is the best jazz album of all time. Did you know that the musicians didn’t even record for the recording session? Miles just showed up to the Blue Note session with some melodies and chords and proceeded to record each song in one take… That’s how Miles liked to do it… He wanted everything to be spontaneous. Needless to say, every person played brilliantly. There was so much talent and feeling that there was just no need for many takes. The songs consist of simple melodies and there is so much space yet also deep emotion. It is a pleasure to listen to and feel this album.

Grammy Group

2) A Love supreme -John Coltrane

This album fully changed the jazz world in 1965 and even today it’s effects can be found in many musical styles, not just jazz. Coltrane evolves from the very complex and dense harmonic language he had mastered with Miles Davis and Monk and just played with pure, raw passion. The four songs on this album are simultaneously filled emotions of anger, joy, sadness, ecstasy, tragedy and triumph. I know of many distinct types of artists such as writers or painters who use this album to inspire power and passion from within themselves for their own personal art. This album also inspired a revolution in Coltrane’s playing as he played with this same organic raw intensity for the rest of his life.

3) Time Out -Dave Brubeck

This was the first instrumental jazz album to sell over a 1,000,000 copies. ‘Take 5′ was even a whole one hit on Billboard’s charts which is a serious feat for any jazz song (and any song in 5/4!). Brubeck uses rhythmic influences from Eastern Europe to create a very new sound in the jazz style. The complex rhythms he uses sound very natural and are easy to listen to, probably the think for his success. This one is guaranteed to please and intrigue it’s listeners.

4) Ellington at Newport -Duke Ellington

Here’s a historic concert that has a marvelous background story… It was 1956 and many big bands were failing because of the rise of bebop and modern small group jazz. So at the 3rd each year Newport Jazz Festival, Ellington tried hard to please the crowd with new suites and new arrangements, but the crowd was very sedated as usual. Then finally on a two section song, Dimuendo and Crescendo in Blue, Duke had the two sections connect with a sax solo by Paul Gonzalves and him told to play the solo as long as wanted to. He ordinarily only took a merge choruses but this time Gonzalves took a 27 chorus solo that finally had the crowd off it’s feet and dancing! This changed the face of jazz solos and as well as gave Duke some new found success. Duke’s band prolonged in this popularity for 18 more years.

5) Jazz at Massey Hall -Charlie Parker

This album often appears reissued under the name “The greatest Concert Ever”. It is an all star lineup of Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. These guys were all complex in the creation of bebop about 15 years before this concert date (1953) and thus were all seasoned veterans by the time of the concert. Also this was the only time these five would record together and every person plays amazingly. A lot of earlier bebop recordings suffered from sound quality but this one sounds very good for a live concert.

6) Headhunters -Herbie Hancock

When I first heard this album I felt I had finally found that exquisite “sound” I had been searching for my whole life. Some critics and pure acoustic jazz-heads say this album is not jazz, but I must disagree. Others do too, this album was so popular that it swiftly sold over a million copies after it’s issue in 1973. It’s simple, funky, very enjoyable, and Amazing! Listen to it over and over for maximum satisfaction.

7) Blue Train -John Coltrane

Recorded in 1957, this album was Coltrane’s first album as a leader. It’s very fascinating to hear how Coltrane was playing before he started heading to the freer, passionate playing that he evolved to in the 60′s. Did you know that ten years earlier, Coltrane was thought about just a mediocre player? He studied with others and performed So Much with Miles. He was known to enduringly custom after gigs late into the night to come to be the player he was on this album… And he continually improved after this recording! I love this album because it has such a solid, classic jazz sound with great musicians and great originals by Coltrane himself.

8) Getz/Gilberto -Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto

So Herbie Hancock won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2008, the last jazz album to win the award was this one in 1965. It created the Bossa Nova craze in the United States and is one of the best selling jazz records of all time. Stan Getz, Joao and Astrud Gilberto are very graceful and intimate as they float along straight through this marvelous material composed by the noted Antonio Carlos Jobim. I think the best word to chronicle this album is relaxing.

9) Mingus Ah Um -Charles Mingus

Charles Mingus had a way of manufacture his bands sound lush, original, and of policy swing like crazy. This album features many tribute songs to former jazz legends that are guaranteed to get your foot tapping and your fingers snapping! Also there are some marvelous ballads filled with very colorful and emotional horn arrangements. I love to listen to and jam the song Fables of Faubus, a track dedicated to the infamous former governor of Arkansas who took a stand against integration in schools in 1957, the music says it just right.

10) Concert by the Sea -Errol Garner

Errol Garner is a beast. This may be because he can’t read a note of written music and therefore must rely on his hearing to guide him to what sounds good. Well he verily knows what that is because this album is incredibly fascinating both harmonically and rhythmically. His left hand swings so hard that it verily is on someone else level of most all pianists. He is technically fluent and plays very extravagant arrangements of many well-loved standards like Autumn Leaves and I’ll Remember April.

The Songs of Birds

There are many sounds in Nature that pleasure the ear. The songs of birds, without which the green countryside would be roughly a dreary place; the shrill, whistling bugle note of the whitetail deer which uttered only at night and which is one of the rarest and wildest of all woods sounds; the guttural, mysterious voices of migrating herons dropping down through the blackness overhead; the music of the wind in one high, dim, shadowy forest of ancient, straight-trunked pines; the deep-toned thunder roll of the surf beating upon a lonely shore-all these sounds in their several ways bring pleasure to those whose joy lies in natural things and who will not always be pent in cities.

Better, perhaps, than any of these, more inspiring, more stimulating to the lover of wild creatures, is other sound, a sound which even the most fortunate of woods-lovers hears but seldom-the sound of wide-wild wings, the wings of a great enterprise of big, beautiful, marvelous birds surging upward through the eddying air in some remote and lovely place. One day last June I heard that sound in a place so lovely that I think there can be no lovelier spot everywhere on earth.

Music

We were paddling in a small, flat-bottomed punt along the winding water-lanes of a safe bet cypress lagoon where many tall white egrets and many herons of varied kinds had their nests. We were bound for an egret city situated in the lagoon’s upper reaches; and, as always when I visit that lagoon, the magic of the spot had laid its spell upon me so that for the time I was scarcely aware of details but was lost and submerged in the charm of my surroundings. I was in other world, a flooded forest of some old epoch before man was known, a world of water and of trees.

On every side the smooth trunks of cypresses rose from the still surface of the lagoon, their vivid green feathery foliage forming a lofty roof above our heads, their branches festooned with long, graceful pendants of Spanish moss. In and out amid the cypress trunks wound the narrow water-lane which we were following in our punt; and in all that watery wilderness of trees, that beautiful hidden lake, which was not so much a lake as it was a forest whose floor was water instead of earth, there was no sound except the sounds of the wild creatures for whom this spot was a sanctuary and a stronghold.

They were, nearly all of them, sounds that were wild rather than musical. beautiful orange-gold warblers, which had their homes in holes in dead stumps rising from the water, sang to us now and then, their fantastic plumage flashing in the sun.

In April 1962, The Rolling Stones was formed with members Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. This British R&B influenced rock group got their name from a Muddy Waters song.

Former Beatles publicist, Andrew Loog Oldham, signed “The Stones” to a management deal in 1963 and began promoting them as “the bad boys of rock and roll”, compared to the Beatles’ squeaky clean image. Oldham also produced their first albums between 1964 and 1967.

Grammy

Lead vocalist, Mick Jagger, tried recording solo and managed to crack the Top 40 four times, with his biggest hit being a cover version of the Martha and the Vandellas “Dancing In The Street.” He teamed up with David Bowie on this tune, which was recorded at the Live-Aid benefit concert in 1985 and it went Top 10. How to Organise a Music Festival

There are many factors to think in the running of a festival. Each aspect is as foremost as the next, with the failure of one having a knock-on effect on the whole event. Let us start with the site. Obviously the space designated for your festival will be carefully by the scale of the event, however, size isn’t everything. An piquant and unique piece of land can make a huge distinction on the broad feel of the festival, rather than a rigidly organised amalgamation of flat fields, with miles of wooden board acting as a perimeter.

The sanitation element of any festival has been historically related with repulsiveness, vulgarity, and the grotesque. Why not take a break from tradition and authentically go the extra mile to remedy this situation. The scene of overflowing toilets and snaking queues need not be the ubiquitous component of the music festival camp-site as it has been previously.

Festival

Just as people query enough toilet facilities, they also need a constant contribute of food and drink. It is an absolute must to get various traders into the mix. If burger vans and mobile chip shops don’t quite cut it for you, then why not bring in a merge of alternatives. Vegetarian options are available, as are a whole host of International takeaways.

Whilst these aspects are of great significance, what could be more foremost than the booking of the bands? Ideally, you want to be able to boast a range of bands who have some level of fame in order to attract the crowds. However, it is also foremost to use this as a platform to showcase new bands and introduce people to new music.

So far we have talked about the “front of house” elements of a festival, but have neglected the good work that goes on behind the scenes. Without power any festival would never get off the ground. Bands would be playing to a few avid listeners in the front row, whilst the whole place, come nightfall, would be plunged into darkness, and hot food and drinks would have to be sacrificed until Monday morning. So, in order to make everything possible, it is primary to look into things such as lighting, sound, and generators before you open the flood gates.

The Gift of the Magi – An Appreciation

It is customary to show old and new movies, play all time great music and songs, etc. Around the festival and other prominent days.

So is done during the weeks and months prominent to Christmas. Tv will be full of great films on the theme of Christmas and “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell”, will be sung umpteenth time.

Festival

Here is one of the all time great short stories on the theme of Christmas by one of the many short story writer of all time.

The short story is titled, “The Gift of the Magi”, and its writer is O. Henry whose real name was William Sydney Porter.

First what do we mean by Magi?

When Christ was born he is supposed to have been brought gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense by the Magi (incidentally, the English word ‘magic’ is derived from it) or three Wise Men or three Kings from the East.

The writer gives his own explanation at the end of the short story. This tradition of commentary by the author within the story is used less and less in modern stories. In fact, modern stories, like modern art and poetry, are becoming more and more difficult to understand and that may be one of the reasons that the genre of short stories is dying down, though not yet dead.

O. Henry writes at the end of the story, “The magi, as you know, were wise men–wonderfully wise men–who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger. They invented the art of giving Christmas presents. Being wise, their gifts were no doubt wise ones, maybe bearing the privilege of change in case of duplication. And here I have lamely associated to you the uneventful describe of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the many treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Anywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.”

The story concerns a poor integrate Della and Jim who are at their wits’ end on Christmas Eve what to give each other as they have no money. How much they had?

“One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one’s cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty- seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas.”

Of course, it was the time when things and services were cheap. They paid a weekly rent of $ 8 for their furnished flat and Jim earned $ 20 per week though previously he was earning $ 30 per week. Still $ 1.87 was too minute to buy any Christmas gift.

Yet they were able to buy high-priced and exactly the very gifts which were most needed and desired by each other:

“Dell,” said he, “let’s put our Christmas presents away and keep ‘em a while. They’re too nice to use just at present.”

The story ends with a “twist-in-the-tail” surprise which was a popular ploy of the customary writers and which is frowned upon by modern writers. However, this bitter-sweet ending makes this one of the many immortal short stories.

Of course, to know the surprise ending and savor this great story, I have not divulged all the details and I would suggest it a compulsory reading for all and especially for those who are young at heart. But who is not?

I would also request to ponder for a occasion if the owner of an prominent sounding card bearing the name “Mr. James Dillingham Young” appertaining to unused letter-box and non-functioning electric button in the vestibule, had no money to spend on Christmas gift, how much hopeless the authentically poor might be feeling on Christmas eve! If we think about them on Christmas, God will authentically bless us.

Merry Christmas!

Live The Life Beautiful!

Be Happy! Be Healthy! Be Successful!

Today, Tomorrow, Forever!
